What’s good besties? The elevated levels of tree pollen, PMS, and my bustling corporate career have been kicking my ass. I would make a joke about the gas shortage, and how I haven’t noticed since I have a big sack of high grade marijuana known in the underground economy as “gas,” but I don’t have time for that.
Let’s jump straight in because I actually have to work today. Heard you girls take the weekends off…can’t relate!
LATE
10) More MOVE Bones Mess
Believe it or not, even more remains of the MOVE victims have been mismanaged by Philadelphia professionals. This week, the Philadelphia health commissioner Dr. Thomas Farley resigned due to his revelation that in 2017 he allegedly created some remains from the bombing. Dr. Farley is the former health commissioner of NYC from 2009-2014.
In a strange plot twist (the spirits belonging to these bones are clearly active in the ether), the remains have been discovered and were not in fact cremated, thanks to an employee who never followed the orders to burn them.
Dr. Farley announced this on anniversary of the bombing May 12th, and I was pissed about that at first but the family actually requested it. I can see why they did that now, to fully emphasize the harm that was done and continues to play out in present day.
9) Rapper Lil Reese shot again
What would Chicago rapper Lil Reese’s life be, if video didn’t exist? He got popular due to a viral music video of him and his friends rapping, then he lost almost everything to another viral video of him beating up a girl. Before this most recent shooting, he’s been shot critically before, a few days later popping up on Instagram video to confirm he’s okay…. but the incident permanently impacted his voice.
On Saturday there were videos floating around of Lil Reese bleeding from the mouth after this most recent incident, which unfortunately I watched. I saw many people say that was his karma for all wrong he’s done in the past.
That’s not for me to say, but I do still wonder…what would Lil Reese’s life be like, had it not been for the invention of the moving picture. Miraculously, he’s stable now and expected to pull through.
8)The lack of peace in the Middle East.
What’s understood doesn’t have to be explained.
NEITHER HERE NOR THERE
7) Times Square Shooter Caught
Last Saturday a crazy shooting took place in Times Square and 3 people (none of whom were the intended target) were shot, the shooter fled and wasn’t found for several days.
One of the people shot was a 4 year old girl who reportedly didn’t even cry; I’m assuming because she’s from Brooklyn. We’re built different.
Being that I used to work in the area for several years, I was all over the story. Who is dumb enough to shoot in Times Square…one of the most under surveillance places in the world? Also, why’d it take the cops so long to catch him (albeit he fled to Florida)? I’m hating? I’m happy he got caught, but is it just me or the city is chaotic as fuck lately? The upside is I’m seeing transplants move or talk about moving…bye pooh!
Turns out the shooter’s brother who was the intended target, snitched on him to the police leading to the arrest. The highlight to know here is he was one of those “Do you like hip hop” dudes who’d passerby’s that before shoving a struggle rap CD Rom in your face. I always ignored them (genius in retrospect) while simultaneously wanting more for them…like more advanced technology. Why don’t you hand out a flashdrive? Or a QR code tattoo/laser ! (wow genius again I should delete this and sell it to a corporation).
6) Joe Budden Fires His Cohosts Publicly
This was pretty nuts man. As a podcast fanatic, I was all over this story. Podcasts are essential to my life, similar to how my grandmother enjoyed listening to talk radio. Some of you may not care if you don’t listen but trust me it’s important. Joe Budden is certainly an asshole, but his voice and keen analysis were made for whatever it is that he does.
After weeks (months, really) of thick tension, missed recordings and spicy subtweets…Joe Budden took to his podcast on Wednesday to publicly berate and fire both of his co-hosts while yelling at their empty chairs.
It’s not that I couldn’t see it coming, being that Budden seems to ruin everything he touches…yet he keeps building. He released a full fledged spiral of a podcast and then quickly deleted it to put it behind a pay wall. But no pay wall formed against me shall prosper.
Budden must agree, because the snaky squabble between him and his co hosts is allegedly over “accounting” and some 400K that cannot be explained. Budden, deflecting, freaked the fuck out after the percentage based cohosts, who are supposed to be his friends…asked to see the books.
Then, in a genius marketing ploy Joe releases a podcast later in the week, featuring his therapist to discuss the situation. Again without the cohosts he has the issues with, but in front of the whole world.
I can’t lie it was a brilliant move, he is controlling the narrative. He’s feeding into all of us calling him crazy while creating sought after content in the process; do remember: content is king.
Then in response to that, his co hosts came out with a $2 podcast that I listened to without paying.
It basically confirmed what we knew: Joe is indeed a nut job and… he’s likely hiding money from his workers. Mal points out that he knew it all went wrong when Joe started wearing Amiri hats, lol. Mans is one of the worst dressed people to live, and there’s an IG account dedicated to that fact.
This whole thing sounds like a misuse of PPP funds to me. I was a fan of the pod and will likely miss it.
5) CDC says no masks necessary
Hence the title of this email which stands for I Don’t Give A Fuck What The CDC Said You Better Wear Your MotherFucking Mask….I’m just not sure what type of time the CDC or anybody else is on. I’m definitely still wearing my mask around people I don’t know like that, and maybe some of the ones I do.
Treating the mask thing like a honor system doesn’t seem like the best idea in a country filled with so many liars with free will. I suppose I’ll let the scientists do the sciencing. But best believe I’ma always do it my way like Sinatra and Queen Key.
4)A few decent songs
A bunch of new music came out this week, which astrologers predicted thanks to Thursday’s shift of Jupiter into Pisces. Here’s a few songs that came out this week that I think are good enough, I don’t listen to J Cole but people who like that, like that:
Crocodile Teeth (Remix) - Nicki Minaj & Skililibeng
Straightenin - Migos
His & Hers - Internet Money, Don Toliver (WE LOVE HIM) Lil Uzi, Gunna.
9 Bridge - Rowdy Rebel & A Boogie with da Hoodie
GREAT
3)Wendy Williams dripping in wax, Chrome Hearts & Telfar
Queen of Drip, Wendy Williams revealed her Madame Tussaud’s wax figure and it is ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL. That wax museum usually does the girls filthy and greasy, but Wendy’s looks great.
The real Wendy looked beautiful herself sporting a Christopher John Rogers striped number. Her fine ass son was there with her, hey Kevin Jr. I noticed Wendy eats more nutritious meals when she’s hanging with her son versus when she’s not. Plus he bought her all these beautiful Chrome Hearts pieces of Mother’s Day. Best son ever!
Wendy has worn the Chrome Hearts bag twice this week as I would too. I loved this photo of her in her Telfeezy and her Chrome purse…period pooh!
2)Nicki Minaj’s Instagram photos
Honestly, Nicki Minaj’s instagram photo roll out was more invigorating to me than her the mixtape re-release and the outfit she wore on IG live to announce it, combined. The new songs were good I guess but I don’t think I’m going to be playing them all on the regular. Regardless, it was great to see her back on the gram with her wig slayed by the one and only Tae!
I appreciated when she crushed everyone’s feelings with her pink 1 of 8, Richard Mille watch
and her in house beauty salon!
That is a dream come true for every girl who’s ever gotten a wash and set.
1)Dave Chappelle’s New Podcast
The Joe Budden Podcast as we know it may be over, but it doesn’t even matter because Dave released some sort of wonderful audio experience called The Midnight Miracle this week that you have to listen to:
I would call it a podcast but that’s too flat, this has texture, BEAUTIFUL & cinematic music, rhyme, rhythm. Like all of Dave’s recent work, it’s truly spectacular: well thought out and thought provoking.
He opens the first episode, How to Inspire with an Islamic saying which touched my heart. It translated to
“We all come from God, and to God we will all return.”
I love the collective consciousness shift that I am witnessing happening…it feels like most people are publicly acknowledging that there is something bigger than self. I love that for us.
Through a beautiful collection of intimate stories in conversation with his friends and co hosts Yasiin Bey + Talib Kweli, he goes on to memorialize friends who have passed on like one of the best white women to live Amy Winehouse, Malik B of the Legendary Roots Crew and fellow Scorpio Rising…Robin Williams.
Starting off his podcast series with the theme of “loss” seems fitting in a world that is determined to show us, you don’t know what you’ve got til it’s gone. But the podcast isn’t completely sad, it’s actually inspirational. Chappelle includes a beautiful message at the end to promo the next episode “How to Live.” But the ending also feels like a deeper and more poignant healing message about life, for those who may be feeling like they don’t to be apart of it anymore:
“If you can hang in there long…my God, there’s a next time. Just live.”
Be well my friends, take care of yourself…who better to do it, but you!
the cdc just vibing out here, wear a mask!
Agreed, Chappelle is revolutionizing and reinventing what we call "the podcast." this jawn hit diffffferent in the best of ways, and OMG with spatial audio technology coming to streaming platforms like Apple it's finna be next level with content like this.
